Aadhaar can simplify various activities in your daily life. It can be used for opening bank accounts, applying for a mobile SIM card, filing Income Tax returns, and more. Having updated information ensures a hassle-free experience.

Keeping your Aadhaar updated is essential for ensuring its accuracy, security, and smooth functioning in various aspects of your life.

Many government schemes and benefits like subsidies, pensions, or scholarships are linked to Aadhaar.

Having an updated Aadhaar ensures you don’t face delays or disruptions in receiving these benefits.

For example, if your ration card isn’t linked to your updated address, you might encounter issues receiving subsidised rations.

The number of times you can update your Aadhaar data depends on the specific field:

  • Name: You can modify your name on the Aadhaar card twice throughout your life. This caters to situations like marriage or name change by deed poll.
  • Gender: Once in lifetime
  • Date of Birth: Ideally, your date of birth shouldn’t require updates. However, if a mistake occurred during enrollment, you can update it once. Since the date of birth is a critical piece of information, strong supporting documents are mandatory for this update.
  • Address: Unlike name and date of birth, there’s no limit to updating your address on your Aadhaar card. As you move residences, keeping your Aadhaar address current ensures smooth delivery of important documents and communication.

It’s important to keep your Aadhaar information accurate, so updating your address whenever you move is recommended.

‘Exceptional Cases’

Instances surpassing the above limit will be regarded as exceptional cases. In such cases, residents are encouraged to submit an update request at an Aadhaar Centre and then proceed to the relevant regional office of UIDAI to seek approval for the update in exceptional circumstances.

Upon thorough assessment by authorised officials, the request will be either approved or rejected. You have the option to update your date of birth in your Aadhaar using a valid proof of date of birth bearing your name.
