Meet Ananya Sharma, Female Fighter Pilot: Salary Structure and Perks of Indian Air Force Officer

In a historic moment for the Indian Air Force (IAF), Flying Officer Ananya Sharma, alongside her father Air Commodore Sanjay Sharma, etched her name in the aviation history, when they flew in the same formation in Karnataka’s Bidar.

Hailing from a lineage steeped in military tradition, Officer Ananya Sharma’s journey to the skies was fueled by her determination and passion for serving the nation.

A graduate in Electronics and Communication, she pursued her dream of becoming a fighter pilot, following in her father’s footsteps.

With the induction of its first women fighter pilots in 2016, the IAF has continued to break barriers and shatter stereotypes, paving the way for more women to pursue careers in aviation.

During this year’s Republic Day parade flypast, Officer Ananya Sharma joined a cohort of 15 women IAF pilots, showcasing their prowess across fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters. The participation of French aircraft, including Rafale jets, further underscored the IAF’s growing international collaborations and prowess.

As officer, Ananya Sharma and her fellow women fighter pilots soared through the skies, they embodied the theme of “Samridh Bharat Sashakt Bharat,” symbolising a prosperous and empowered India.

Indian Air Force Pay And Allowance

Even before officially commissioning as Air Force Officers, aspirants embark on their journey with a monthly stipend of Rs. 56,100 during the final year of training at any Air Force Training Institution. However, the financial benefits extend far beyond training, as Flying Officers enjoy a comprehensive salary package upon commission.

Upon commission, Flying Officers are placed in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix of the VIIth Central Pay Commission (CPC), entitling them to a monthly pay of Rs. 56,100. Additionally, they receive a Military Service Pay of Rs. 15,500 per month, further enhancing their earnings. The Flying Officers are eligible for various allowances tailored to their duties and postings. These include allowances such as Transport Allowance, Children Education Allowance, and House Rent Allowance (HRA), ensuring their financial well-being and stability.

Moreover, specific allowances are provided based on the nature of duty and place of posting. This encompasses Flying, Transport, Technical, Field Area, and Special Compensatory allowances, among others. From serving in challenging terrains like Siachen to conducting flight tests as Test Pilots or Flight Test Engineers, officers receive additional compensation for their dedicated service.
