Cloudburst in Itanagar triggers floods and landslides

A cloudburst in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar on the morning of 23rd June triggered several landslides and a flood-like situation, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.
- According to details, the cloudburst took place around 10.30 am, which led to landslides in various parts of Itanagar and its adjoining areas. Also, a flood-like situation was witnessed in several stretches of the NH-415, PTI quoted official of the Disaster Management Department as saying.
- Apart from this, several vehicles were stranded on the highway the lifeline for the people of the state capital, and many houses were damaged.
- Road communications to and from several villages under Itanagar of Arunachal Pradesh have been disrupted due to the floods triggered by the cloudburst.
- Low lying areas in Itanagar district of Arunachal Pradesh have been completely submerged by the flood waters.
- However, no loss of life or injury to anyone has been reported due to the floods triggered by the cloudburst.

The authorities have advised the people of the affected areas to remain alert. The Itanagar district administration has issued guidelines and asked people to avoid the rivers and landslide-prone areas, adding, they should move to safer places in view of the heavy rain.
- To assist those affected, the district administration has established seven designated relief camps.
- Among other things, Itanagar District Magistrate office has issued emergency contact number list so that more and more people can be rescued.

There was no rain since last two days and today’s heavy rains returned to Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh after a brief respite. A sudden cloudburst triggered multiple landslides and caused flooding in various parts of the capital city, according to disaster management officials.
