New Delhi: The decomposed body of a 42-year-old man was discovered inside a house in South Delhi’s Chattarpur area, according to police reports on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Ratan, was an employee at a multinational corporation (MNC). The police were alerted to the situation when Ratan’s prolonged absence and unresponsiveness to phone calls raised concerns among acquaintances.

Discovery of the Body

The incident came to light on Saturday around 9 p.m. when a call was received by the police. The caller, whose identity has not been disclosed, reported that Ratan, a tenant in a house located in Chattarpur, had not been answering his phone and his room was locked from the inside.

“Ratan was working with an MNC. Acting on the call, a police team reached the spot. The door of the room was broke open. Ratan’s body was found lying on the bed in a highly decomposed state,” a senior police officer reported.

Initial Investigation

During the initial inquiry, police discovered that Ratan had been living alone in the rented accommodation for over a year. The neighbors and acquaintances had little interaction with him, which contributed to the delay in noticing his absence. The police team had to forcefully enter the locked room, where they encountered a grim scene: Ratan’s body was significantly decomposed, indicating that he had been dead for several days.

“The crime team was called, and the body was shifted to AIIMS Mortuary. On enquiry so far, it is revealed that the man, who was from Maharashtra, had some heart issues,” added the senior police officer.

Medical Examination and Forensics

Following the discovery, the crime team conducted a thorough examination of the scene to gather any potential evidence. The body was transported to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggested that Ratan might have succumbed to a heart-related ailment, given his known medical history. However, the exact cause of death will be determined following the completion of the autopsy and further forensic analysis.

Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow over the incident. Many of them described Ratan as a reserved individual who kept to himself. His solitary lifestyle meant that his absence went unnoticed for an extended period. The police are currently in the process of contacting Ratan’s family in Maharashtra to inform them of his demise and to facilitate the necessary procedures for claiming his body.

“We are deeply saddened by what has happened. Ratan was a quiet man, and we rarely saw him interacting with anyone,” said one of the neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s heartbreaking to think that he passed away alone and was not found for so long.”

The police have assured a comprehensive investigation to rule out any foul play, although initial reports suggest natural causes. They are also exploring any possible professional or personal reasons that might have contributed to his untimely death. Meanwhile, local authorities are emphasizing the importance of community vigilance, especially for individuals living alone.

“We urge the community to keep an eye out for their neighbors, particularly those who live alone, and to report any unusual occurrences promptly,” stated the senior police officer.

In light of this tragic incident, health professionals are advocating for greater awareness regarding heart health and the importance of regular medical check-ups. Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and early detection and management are crucial in preventing fatalities.

“People with known heart conditions should be under regular medical supervision, and it’s vital for them to have a support system that can act in case of emergencies,” said Dr. Rajesh Sharma, a cardiologist at AIIMS.

Employer and Workplace Response

Ratan’s employer, the unnamed multinational corporation, expressed their condolences and assured cooperation with the ongoing investigation. They also highlighted the importance of employee welfare and mental health support.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague Ratan. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones. The company is committed to supporting our employees’ health and well-being and will be reviewing our policies to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future,” said a spokesperson from the MNC.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting a detailed investigation. They are also in the process of verifying the tenant agreement and contacting the landlord to gather additional information about Ratan’s stay and any potential visitors he might have had recently.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a thorough understanding of the circumstances leading to Ratan’s death,” assured the senior police officer.
