Argument Over Fare Turns Deadly As the argument escalated, Vinod stopped at the foot of the Munirka flyover where Ranwa allegedly punched him in the face.
An auto-driver allegedly stabbed a passenger to death following an argument over fare, in R K Puram in the late hours of Sunday night, said police.
According to police, Mukesh Kumar Ranwa (35), a constable in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) where he worked as a driver, was on his way home from Munirka to Sector-4 in RK Puram when he allegedly got into a heated argument with Vinod Kumar (39) over the auto fare.
As the argument escalated, Vinod stopped at the foot of the Munirka flyover where Ranwa allegedly punched him in the face. Enraged by this, Vinod pulled out a knife and stabbed Ranwa in the neck, police added.
Neeraj (35), one of the witnesses, said he saw the auto-driver stab the man and called the police to report the incident. Ranwa was then taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding.
Kumar was arrested Monday evening
According to the police, Kumar had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol. “More than a 100 CCTV footage of cameras were collected and meticulously analysed. Local sources were deployed and intelligence was collected…during analysis of the backtracking of CCTV footage, the team members noticed one person near the place of the incident in a suspicious condition…clear photos of the person was developed through technical apparatus and circulated among local informers to get the suspect’s identity,” said DCP Southwest Rohit Meena. He was finally tracked down near Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, where a raid was conducted by the police to arrest him.

Kumar had earlier had a run-in with the police in 2018 where he was accused of forcibly entering a woman’s house, verbally abusing her and physically assaulting her. The woman, in her complaint, had noted that prior to the incident, Kumar had been harassing her, had verbally abused her and even followed her on her way back home from work. He had even threatened her with acid attack.
He was then booked for trespassing, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, using criminal force or assaulting a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty, stalking, insulting a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation.
