Delhi breathes sigh of relief with rain spell today afternoon. It is expected that monsoon will reach in Delhi by 29th June this year.
Light rain was seen in parts of the national capital on Friday, which brought relief from the intense heatwave in the city, the Indian Metrological office said. Delhi has been reeling under a spell of intense and prolonged heatwave for over a month now. Recent light rain and thunderstorms have provided some relief from the prolonged heatwave affecting northern India.
The day began with a partly cloudy sky in Delhi, and the minimum temperature settled at a relatively normal 28.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, the weather office said, reported the PTI.
Rain and thunderstorm likely
Thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 50 kmph would be seen in Delhi and adjoining areas of the NCR in the next two hours, according to the weather bulletin at 3 pm. The city’s minimum temperature settled at 28.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, the India Meteorological Department said.
IMD predictions for Delhi
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted some relief from the scorching heatwave in Delhi over the weekend as the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday, as per the PTI.
The IMD said that heatwave conditions have abated from Delhi under the influence of western disturbance and lower-level easterlies from Bay of Bengal.
The Monsoon rain is predicted in Delhi from 29th June onwards. After this rain the maximum temperatures would drastically decline in Delhi.
WEATHER CONDITIONS IN NORTH INDIA
The western disturbance on Thursday affected parts of northern India, which had been reeling under an intense heatwave since 7th June.
The India Meteorological Department said no heatwave is predicted over most parts of the country in the next four to five days.
The monsoon is predicted to cover central India and most parts of northwest India between 27th June and 3rd July. The primary rain-bearing system did not make any progress between June 13 and 19, extending the wait for rain in northern India amid the sweltering heat, it said.
“Under the influence of a western disturbance and lower-level easterlies from the Bay of Bengal, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall has been observed over Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, north Haryana, Chandigarh, and north Uttar Pradesh during the 24 hours. Isolated very heavy rainfall has also been observed over Uttarakhand, and isolated hailstorms over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab,” it said.
