The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway starts from Akshardham in Delhi. This expressway is being constructed in four phases. The first section will connect Akshardham to Kundli Palwal Expressway.
New Delhi. Connecting the national capital Delhi and the capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will open partially by October 2024.
The first phase of the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access-Controlled Expressway is between Akshardham Temple in Delhi and Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. Vehicles will run first on this first phase of 32 km. The work of the first phase of Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is 90-95 percent complete. Construction of signage, expansion joints and other infrastructure is underway. The carriageway work has also been completed.
Construction work of the last 20 km long part of the expressway near Dehradun is still going on.
The first phase was planned to be opened by March 2024, but the expressway could not be completed by the scheduled time due to construction restrictions under the dangerous pollution spread in Delhi. At the same time, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is expected to be fully operational by the beginning of next year.
It is being constructed in four phases.
Currently, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is used to travel from Delhi to Dehradun which takes about five hours. The new expressway will reduce the travel time to just two and a half hours.
18 km part elevated
The total length of the first section is 31.6 km. Out of this, about 18 km part is elevated. The elevated road starts from Shastri park in Delhi and goes up to Loni. From Akshardham to EPE crossing, this expressway is passing through the dense population of East Delhi. To avoid inconvenience to people during construction, an elevated road is being built for 18 km. Due to the construction of the elevated road, vehicles will not have to pass through densely populated areas like Geeta Colony, Khajuri Khas, Mandola and Panchgaon. Vehicles will pass from above. This will provide relief from traffic jams to drivers going to Baghpat, Saharanpur and Uttarakhand.
