New Delhi: The Delhi High Court is hearing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest by Enforcement Directorate in excise policy case. Kejriwal highlighted before the High Court that his arrest in the money laundering case was based on statements by accused persons who later turned approvers and that there was no other evidence against him. According to Bar and Bench, Kejriwal’s counsel Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi likened such approvers to a Trojan horse and drew comparisons with medieval king Jaichand, who is said to have betrayed Indian rulers by allying with Ghurid invaders.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with now-scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy case. Next day, the trial court had remanded him to ED custody until March 28.
“A sitting CM was arrested one week ago during the Model Code of Conduct. If you do something to disrupt the level playing field, you hit the heart of democracy. The question is the timing of the arrest. My prayer is that release me now because the foundation of my arrest is flawed, this is my interim prayer.”
‘Consequences are very severe’: Delhi High Court On Plea Against Protests In Court Premises
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has warned of severe action if any protest is held in any courts of the national capital, ahead of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legal cell’s call for protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate.
The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora questioned how protests can be held in court premises. “Consequences are very severe for organising a protest in court,” Justice Manmohan said after a lawyer made a mention about his complaint against the call given by AAP legal cell.
Kejriwal’s health has deteriorated in ED custody
The blood sugar level of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is diabetic, is fluctuating and his health has deteriorated in Enforcement Directorate custody, AAP sources claimed on Wednesday.
Arvind Kejriwal’s blood sugar level dropped to 46 Mg at one point of time and according to doctors, such a drop is “very dangerous”, they claimed.
