DELHI: The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has summoned AAP Minister Atishi to appear before it on June 29 in connection with a defamation case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor. The case stems from allegations made by Atishi regarding ‘poaching’ of AAP legislators by the BJP.
Earlier, Atishi had been issued a defamation notice by the BJP after alleging pressure to join the party or face arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In a retaliatory move, Atishi launched a scathing attack on the BJP, questioning their tactics in forming governments in various states without securing majority seats. She specifically referenced instances in Goa, Manipur, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Atishi also raised concerns about the BJP’s handling of cases involving leaders who join the party, citing examples like the closure of cases related to the Air India scam after certain individuals joined the BJP.
Asserting that “Operation Lotus” is no secret, Atishi challenged the BJP to explain their methods of governance without majority support.
In response, BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj criticized Atishi for repeatedly making defamatory statements against the BJP without being held accountable. Swaraj accused AAP of a pattern of leveling false allegations and attempting to evade consequences.
ACMM Rouse Avenue has summoned Atishi to clarify her statements made on January 27, 2024, and during a press conference on April 2, alleging an offer to join the BJP. Atishi is expected to present her side in the defamation case during the upcoming court appearance.
