New Delhi: At least three individuals were killed and six others injured following a massive fire outbreak in a factory located in the Narela industrial area, an official reported on Saturday. The fire, which originated due to a gas leak in one of the pipelines, escalated rapidly, leading to the overheating of a compressor and resulting in a devastating explosion.

Incident Overview

The tragedy struck Shayam Kripa Foods Pvt Ltd in the early hours of Saturday. According to the police, a distress call was received by the Police Control Room (PCR) at approximately 3:35 a.m. The caller reported a significant fire with individuals trapped inside the factory. Upon receiving the call, a police team swiftly mobilized to the location.

“Acting on the call, the police team reached the spot, which was Shayam Kripa Foods Pvt Ltd, where fire engulfed the factory and some persons were in the factory. A total of nine victims were rescued and shifted to RHC Hospital, Narela,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth) R.K. Singh.

  2. Akash (19)
  3. Mohit Kumar (21)
  4. Monu (25)
  5. Lalu (32)
  6. Ravi Kumar (19)

Of the injured, five—Pushpender, Akash, Mohit Kumar, Monu, and Lalu—were subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of their conditions. Ravi Kumar sustained relatively minor injuries and is expected to recover without significant medical intervention.

Cause of the Fire

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the fire was triggered by a gas leak while raw moong was being roasted on gas burners. The leak led to a widespread fire, causing the compressor to overheat and ultimately explode. This explosion significantly exacerbated the situation, making it more difficult for emergency services to contain the blaze promptly.

“The factory is owned by Ankit Gupta and Vinay Gupta, both residents of Rohini,” stated the DCP.

Legal Proceedings

In light of the incident, authorities are taking strict measures to ensure accountability and prevent such occurrences in the future. “A case is being registered under appropriate sections, and an investigation is being taken up,” confirmed DCP R.K. Singh.

Emergency Response

The prompt response by the police and emergency services played a crucial role in rescuing the trapped individuals and providing immediate medical care. However, the incident highlights the need for stringent safety protocols, especially in industrial areas where hazardous materials and machinery are commonplace.

The Narela industrial area community is reeling from the impact of the fire, with many expressing grief and concern over the safety measures in local factories. Local authorities and community leaders are urging for a thorough review and enhancement of safety protocols to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

In response to the incident, government officials have promised a thorough investigation and assured that appropriate measures will be implemented to enhance industrial safety standards. The Delhi government is expected to announce a detailed action plan aimed at preventing future occurrences and ensuring the safety of workers in industrial zones.
