In a significant development, JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a male party worker. The incident has sent shockwaves through the political circles of Karnataka.
Suraj Revanna was brought to the CEN police station in Hassan for interrogation, which lasted several hours. Following the extensive questioning, he was subsequently arrested. The charges against him are grave, leading to his immediate detention by the Karnataka police.
The arrest stems from an allegation made by a 27-year-old party worker, who claimed that Suraj Revanna sodomised him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada, Holenarasipura Taluk, on June 16. Based on the victim’s complaint, Suraj Revanna has been booked under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Suraj Revanna, aged 37, is the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and the nephew of Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy. He has categorically refuted the charges, maintaining his innocence.
Adding another layer to the case, Suraj Revanna’s aide Shivakumar filed a complaint against the party worker on Friday, accusing him and his relative of attempting to extort ₹5 crore from the JD(S) MLC. Shivakumar’s complaint claims that the duo threatened to file a false case of sexual assault if their demand was not met. According to the FIR, the demand was later reduced from ₹5 crore to ₹2 crore.
Shivakumar’s complaint further elaborates that the JD(S) worker had first met Suraj six months ago and then again in June, seeking a job. The extortion threat reportedly came after the MLC informed the worker that it would not be possible to assist him in securing a job at that moment, but it might be considered in the future.
In light of these allegations, the police have also booked the complainant and his relative for their alleged extortion attempt.
The Revanna family has been embroiled in multiple controversies recently. Suraj Revanna’s younger brother, Prajwal Revanna, is currently under judicial custody for allegedly sexually abusing women. Their father, JD(S) MLA HD Revanna, was arrested last month in a kidnapping case linked to purported sex videos associated with Prajwal Revanna. HD Revanna is presently out on bail.
This series of incidents involving the Revanna family has not only tarnished their political image but also raised serious concerns about the conduct of public representatives. The legal proceedings and investigations are ongoing, and the political ramifications of these cases are yet to be fully realized.
As the situation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the complexities of these cases and their impact on the political landscape in Karnataka.
