New Delhi: In preparation for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of India on Sunday, authorities have implemented extensive security arrangements across the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his cabinet ministers at 7:15 PM at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Forecourt.

Foreign Dignitaries’ Security: Special security protocols have been arranged for visiting foreign dignitaries, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremasinghe, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who are among the global leaders attending the ceremony.
  3. Hotel Security: Enhanced security measures are being implemented at the designated hotels where the foreign guests will be staying.
  4. No-Fly Zone: An advisory has been issued by the city police declaring a ‘No-Fly Zone’ over the NCT of Delhi. This measure aims to prevent potential threats from sub-conventional aerial platforms, which could be used by criminal or anti-social elements during the oath ceremony.
  5. Prohibited Aerial Activities: The advisory prohibits the operation of various aerial platforms, including para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, and quadcopters. The restrictions are in effect from June 9 to June 10 to thwart any security threats.
  6. Penalties for Violations: Violators of these rules will face penalties and prosecution under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
  7. Cancellation of Change of Guard Ceremony: The Rashtrapati Bhavan has announced the cancellation of the weekly Change of Guard Ceremony on June 8 in light of the security preparations.

Modi’s Election and Appointment

Narendra Modi was formally appointed as the prime minister-designate by President Murmu following his election as the NDA’s Parliamentary leader. This decision came after a meeting of the alliance’s newly elected MPs in the Parliament’s central hall on Friday. BJP president J P Nadda handed President Murmu a letter confirming Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, allowing him to stake a claim to form the government.

According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, a decrease from its 2019 tally of 303 seats. The Congress made significant gains, securing 99 seats. Overall, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc won 234 seats.
