Hyderabad: Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the iconic media baron and chairman of the Ramoji Group, passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a prolonged illness. The 87-year-old Padma Vibhushan awardee succumbed to chronic health complications and age-related ailments, as confirmed by his family members.

Ramoji Rao’s demise marks the end of an era in Indian media and business. He was admitted to Star Hospitals in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, on the afternoon of June 5 due to severe respiratory issues and high blood pressure. Despite receiving critical care and being placed on ventilator support, Rao breathed his last at approximately 4:50 AM on Saturday. His body is currently being transported to his residence at the Ramoji Film City on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where his family will perform the final rites.
