Narendra Modi was unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary party on Friday 7th June 2024, paving the way for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India.
The election took place at the Central Hall of Parliament, where Narendra Modi was warmly felicitated and garlanded by his allies.
Upon his arrival, Narendra Modi was greeted enthusiastically with chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ by all MPs of NDA Alliance, leaders of partners alliances and BJP Office bearers, reflecting his widespread popularity and the momentum behind his leadership.
Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh proposed Narendra Modi’s name as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party, setting the stage for his third term as the Prime Minister. His colleagues Home Minister Amit Shah, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and top NDA leaders backed the proposal. BJP President JP Nadda also lauded the allies and attributed the historic achievement to Modi’s leadership.
As the NDA prepares to approach the President, the election of Modi as leader underscores the coalition’s readiness to commence its next chapter of governance, continuing the trajectory set over the past decade.
In his address, Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the leaders for their relentless efforts and congratulated them on their electoral success. “I congratulate all the leaders for their win and also salute their efforts for working tirelessly to ensure victory for the alliance”, Narendra Modi stated, reinforcing his vision for continued for good governance for next 10 years.
Hitting out at the Opposition, Narendra Modi said that opposition leaders tried to project the results of the Lok Sabha polls as a loss for NDA and asserted that people knew the alliance never lost.
He also took a dig at the opposition I.N.D.I. Alliance over their allegations about the credibility of EVMs, saying their leaders had been silenced due to the “power of democracy” following the declaration of the 2024 Lok Sabha election results.
Addressing a gathering of NDA MPs who elected Narendra Modi as their leader, Narendra Modi said, “I strongly feel people of the I.N.D.I. Alliance belong to the old century when they question technological advancements like EVMs and Aadhaar.”
“This is the power of India’s democracy that those questioning EVMs and the Election Commission were silenced after the results,” he said.
Lashing out at the Opposition, Narendra Modi alleged that I.N.D.I. Alliance leaders tried to abuse the democratic system and create disturbance before election results were announced.
Narendra Modi said during his address that first two terms given to him by people of India were trailers. Now we NDA alliance will show the work to the people. He said that NDA Alliance is an Organic alliance which will make the country a developed country.
“If you noticed the things which happened between 1st June to 4th June, statements were being given in a planned way to push the country towards violence. Attempts were made to mislead and divide the people. Election is such festival which connects more and more people, it is not for dividing the people,” he said.
Narendra Modi urged the opposition leaders to participate constructively in Parliament debates. He said that he had been missing such debates in the Parliament and hoped that the I.N.D.I. Alliance will contribute to the cause of nation-building.
Narendra Modi will take oath on 9th June 2024 (Sunday) at 6 pm for a record third consecutive time. Several foreign leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
After the meeting at Central Hall of Parliament, Narendra Modi visited the house of Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and took their blessings.
He also took blessings of former President Ram Nath Kovind.
