Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu suffered defeat from Japan’s 17-year-old junior world champion Tamoka Miyazaki in the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton here. Apart from this, Lakshya Sen had to face defeat in the pre-quarterfinals at the hands of Lee Chia Hao of Taiwan. Kidambi Srikanth, Priyansh Rajawat and Kiran George entered the quarter-finals.

Srikanth will face Lee Chia Hao in the quarterfinals while Rajawat will face Chou Tin Chen of Taiwan. Kiran will face Rasmus Gemke of Denmark. Sindhu, who was making a comeback after a long time after recovering from injury, had to fight tooth and nail against her young opponent but she could not avoid her defeat. Miyazaki, who won the gold medal at the World Junior Championships 2022, won the Orléans Masters title in France last week.
The Japanese player lost the first game but made a comeback in the second game. In the third and deciding game, Miyazaki had six match points, of which Sindhu saved two, but the Japanese player won when the shuttle got entangled in the net. Earlier on Thursday, Indian women’s doubles Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand had defeated compatriots Priya and Shruti Mishra 21-10, 21-12.
