Union Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Development of Northeast Region, G. Kishan Reddy, emphasized the significant role the Railways has played during the Modi government’s last two terms. Generous funding and clearance of various infrastructure projects have elevated the importance of Railways, with ongoing redevelopment projects in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and other stations. The introduction of indigenously made Vande Bharat trains and the near-completion of the wagon manufacturing unit and passenger terminal at Cherlapalli showcase the government’s commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the second Vande Bharat Express between Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam, Reddy highlighted the government’s focus on railway development. The event, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, marked the commencement of the new train service. The Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week, excluding Thursdays, with regular service starting from March 13.
Train Number 20707 (Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam) and Train Number 20708 (Visakhapatnam – Secunderabad) will connect the two cities, with stops at key stations such as Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, and Samalkot. The train comprises seven AC chair car coaches and one executive AC chair car coach, accommodating 530 passengers. The existing Vande Bharat Train connecting the Telugu States has maintained over 100% occupancy consistently.
In addition to the Vande Bharat Express launch, the occasion witnessed the inauguration of two more new trains and several infrastructure developments, including cargo terminals, goods sheds, railway coach restaurants, and new doubling/tripling works across the zone. The commitment to enhancing rail connectivity and facilities reflects the government’s dedication to transforming the railway landscape.
