The Tempe Police Department confirmed the incident, which took place just after midnight at the Democratic National Committee’s campaign office located near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive in Tempe.

According to police, damage from the gunfire was discovered, but thankfully, no injuries were reported as no one was inside the office during the time of the shooting.

Incident Under Investigation

The Tempe Police Department stated in an official statement to NBC News on Tuesday that officers responded to calls from workers reporting the gunshots. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered bullet holes in the front windows of the building. The office is used by staff members of the Arizona Democratic Party, Harris’ campaign, and various Senate and House campaigns that are working to boost turnout in the upcoming November elections.

The police are actively investigating the incident, with detectives analyzing evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Currently, there is no information on any suspects, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The incident has raised security concerns, especially with Harris set to visit the state in the coming days as part of her presidential campaign. Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Cook expressed worry for the safety of staff members and others working in the building. “No one was inside the office during the overnight hours, but this raises concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby,” Sgt. Cook said in a statement.

In response to the shooting, law enforcement has implemented additional security measures in and around the campaign office to ensure the safety of staff and to prevent any further incidents. Local authorities are also working closely with the DNC and other related parties to ensure that the area remains secure.

The gunfire incident comes at a time of heightened political tension in Arizona, a key battleground state for both parties in the upcoming 2024 elections. Harris’ visit to the state is part of her campaign efforts to rally support in critical swing states.

Arizona has been a focus of political attention since the 2020 election, and both parties are working aggressively to sway voters in the lead-up to November. Incidents like these add to the growing concerns about safety and the increasingly volatile nature of political discourse.

The Arizona Democratic Party has not yet issued a statement regarding the shooting. However, political leaders and figures from both sides of the aisle are expected to weigh in as more details about the incident emerge.

Given the timing of the shooting, additional security is likely to be in place for Harris’ upcoming visit to Arizona. Vice President Harris, who is currently campaigning for the 2024 presidential election, is set to make several key appearances in the state, aiming to shore up support among voters.

The incident has reignited concerns about the security of campaign offices and political figures as the 2024 election season heats up. Both Democratic and Republican offices have previously faced security threats, highlighting the need for vigilance and robust protective measures.

While there is no clear indication that the gunfire was targeted at Harris or the Democratic Party specifically, law enforcement is treating the matter seriously, given the potential implications for the safety of those involved in the campaign.

As of now, detectives continue to gather evidence from the scene, with forensic experts examining bullet trajectories and reviewing any available surveillance footage from nearby buildings. Tempe police have urged anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Political violence and threats against campaign offices have become a growing concern in recent years, with authorities emphasizing the need for strict security protocols, especially in high-profile campaigns.

Vice President Harris’ office has not yet commented on the incident, but her team is likely coordinating with local law enforcement and campaign officials to assess the situation and ensure her safety during the upcoming visit.

As the investigation continues, all eyes will be on Arizona, not just for its critical role in the upcoming elections but also for how authorities handle the escalating concerns around political safety.
